Artist's Statement
Rose Owen is a Kingston-based painter whose work draws from personal experiences and the places, people, and nature that have shaped her life. Her art captures the emotional essence of memories—from the vibrant life of Brixton in her 20s to tranquil times watching rowers on the Thames and of the fauna and flora that trigger many momentous times. Through expressive colour and layered mark-making, Rose’s paintings aim to evoke not just a visual experience but the heart and emotional resonance of the subjects.
Raised in a creative household, Rose’s passion for art was nurtured from a young age. After working in advertising, she returned to painting full-time and now works at the Koppel Project Studios in Kingston. Her work has earned recognition through scholarships and is held in private and commercial collections internationally.
Rose is fascinated by how colour, texture, and abstraction can transport viewers to specific times and places, evoking both psychological and emotional responses. She continues to explore these themes in her personal practice and finds joy in commissions that allow her to capture meaningful moments for others.
