About:

The focus of this painting is on the RNLI - reflecting the people and boats that weather many storms to save lives. I've utilised indigo to capture the essence of stormy times, and used a bold orange to reflect the RNLI colours. During the making of this painting, some shadows cast down on the top left in an X shape - I loved how poetic this felt - for me the shadows were representative of life lines, the X symbolic of marking spots to find people, of X being a kiss of life perhaps. I felt this shadow therefore couldn't be ignored, so have used charcoal to recreate this shadow permanently.
